ASUS Business Manager Overview

ASUS Business Manager is a Windows utility for ASUS commercial desktops, notebooks, and all-in-one PCs. It combines hardware, software, and firmware to provide security and productivity tools. ASUS designed the application for small businesses that lack dedicated IT management. Version 3.0 added a Settings page and the My Logo feature.

Core Features

• Secure Guard: Controls read and write access to USB storage devices, card readers, and optical drives. Its System Restriction option can lock the date and time settings, lock the screen after a configurable wait period, and disable registry editing.
• Secure Storage: Creates an encrypted virtual partition on a local drive, such as the C: drive, for important data. Removing the partition deletes all data stored on it.
• System Backtrack: Creates checkpoints that can restore the system to an earlier state. Restore points can also be deleted from the interface.
• File Shredder: Permanently deletes selected files. Its settings meet the US Army AR380-95, DoD 5220.22-M, and DoD 5220.22-M(E) standards.
• My Logo: Changes the boot-time logo by replacing the image in a BIOS file downloaded from the ASUS website. The feature does not currently support Modern Standby devices.

Requirements and Setup

The application is intended for ASUS commercial models running 64-bit Windows 10 version 1809 or later. It requires specific hardware, software, and BIOS support. ASUS states that computers without the application pre-installed are not supported, and it advises against installing the software on other systems to avoid data loss and instability. On first launch, the user creates a startup password that protects settings and stored data. If that password is lost, access to the stored data and settings cannot be recovered, and the only reset method is a Windows system reset. Updates are downloaded from the model support page in the ASUS Download Center.

Usability and Practical Use

Each function is accessed through its own page and icon within the application, and the Settings page displays version information, a short feature introduction, and password management. The tools suit IT staff who need to restrict removable media, store sensitive files in an encrypted partition, maintain restore points, or dispose of files securely. The application is limited to ASUS commercial hardware, so its usefulness depends on the fleet in use.
